The mobilization is part of the national strike called by the Portuguese Nurses’ Union (SEP), which accuses the government of trying to save money at the expense of healthcare professionals.
Carrying banners and signs reading “This ACT is an attack” and “Work more, earn less,” healthcare professionals chanted slogans such as “Government listen, the nurses are fighting” and “Recognition yes, exploitation no.”
According to SEP, the proposal represents an “unacceptable setback,” with the elimination of acquired rights, barriers to career progression, and the end of the continuous shift as the standard regime.
During the protest, professionals will deliver a motion against the ACT to the Ministry of Health.
