Breeders of laying hens are obliged to declare their animals in September, with the exception of establishments with fewer than 350 birds or breeding establishments, the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) announced today.

“All holders of laying hens are obliged to declare the flocks they had on September 1, 2023,” reads a DGAV notice.

A mandatory period for declaring these animals had already passed in February.

The declaration must be submitted via the website https://avidec.dgav.pt or at the Regional Food and Veterinary Services.

The exception applies to laying hen establishments with fewer than 350 birds and those rearing breeding laying hens.

The DGAV is a central service of the State’s direct administration, with administrative autonomy.
