The five occupants of a jeep that became trapped in the Ferreira River in Gondomar late Sunday afternoon have been rescued. The group included a man, a woman, and three minors.
The rescue operation lasted approximately four hours, and the occupants initially had water reaching chest level.
The three minors, aged 10, 14, and 16, were taken to São João Hospital in Porto with signs of hypothermia.
The Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Metropolitan Area of Porto confirmed earlier today that a rescue operation was underway after five people, including three children, were trapped inside a vehicle in the Ferreira River.
According to the mayor of Gondomar, Luís Filipe Araújo, the vehicle was “stuck in the middle of the river” in an area where the water “was flowing very strongly.”
The alert was raised to Civil Protection at 6:08 PM in the area of the Parish Union of Fânzeres and São Pedro da Cova, with the search efforts involving 36 operatives supported by 15 vehicles.
