Although Portugal has already entered the autumn season, the warm weather is expected to persist for several weeks. What will the weather be like next week—from October 13 to 19—across the mainland?
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts “continued dry weather with temperatures exceeding the normal values for this time of year, especially in the interior regions.”
At the start of the week, on October 13, “there are conditions for showers in some interior regions and thunderstorms.” The total precipitation for the week, notably, “will be much lower than normal for this time of year.”
The IPMA also notes that “a high-pressure system located over the United Kingdom extends its influence southward to the Iberian Peninsula, resulting in generally clear skies and high air temperatures.”
“The maximum temperature will reach between 25°C and 30°C in most areas, except for the west coast and highlands where it will vary between 19°C and 24°C,” it states.
The minimum temperature, meanwhile, “will not undergo significant variations throughout the week, ranging between 9°C and 24°C across the territory.”
However, towards the end of the week, from Thursday, October 16, “there will be an increase in cloudiness and the possibility of light rain over the weekend, more likely in the northern region.”
Warmer Than ‘Usual’ Until End of Year
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has made its forecast for the next three months, indicating that during this period, average monthly air temperatures will see a positive anomaly, meaning it will be warmer than ‘usual.’
According to the analysis published this Thursday, “for October and November, the anomaly is 0.5 to 1.0°C, decreasing to 0.25 to 0.5°C in December.”
Experts mention that these above-average values are not only observed in mainland Portugal but also on the islands: “For Madeira, the predicted anomaly is 0.25 to 0.5°C over the three forecast months, while in the Azores, the anomaly is 0.25 to 0.5°C in October and November, increasing to 0.5 to 1.0°C in December.”

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere indicates that both in mainland Portugal and in the Azores and Madeira, temperatures will be slightly above average.
