Three young individuals are awaiting rescue by the Maritime Police after becoming “trapped between the cliff and the water” at Alteirinhos Beach in Odemira, Beja district.
The Alentejo Litoral Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command explained that the youths, whose ages are unknown, “cannot exit via land.”
It was further detailed that rescue teams cannot reach the youths on the cliff by land, and the Maritime Police from Sines are also unable to reach them yet, as they are waiting for the tide to rise to facilitate their extraction: “They can only get there when [the tide] rises.”
The duration required to complete the rescue remains uncertain as it “all depends on the tide.” Nonetheless, it was affirmed that the youths are “conscious” and there was no fall involved. The Maritime Police are “monitoring” the situation along with other operatives.
In addition to the Maritime Police from Sines, the Odemira Volunteer Firefighters are present at the location.
