After a meeting with the executive at the Assembly of the Republic, Livre spokesperson Rui Tavares stated that the PSD/CDS-PP executive anticipates economic growth “just above 2%, or around 2%” this year.
“This was a government that said it was easy to grow above 3%, apparently it’s not easy to grow above 3%,” he criticized.
Rui Tavares urged the executive to engage with the opposition regarding the State Budget proposal for 2026, rather than maintaining a “preferential relationship” with Chega.
“We believe that this relationship is not good for the country; we think the country needs genuine plurality in parliament, and Livre has several proposals to present,” he stated.
Earlier, Chega deputy Rita Matias remarked that the Portuguese have chosen the Government’s preferred partner for the State Budget negotiations for 2026 and indicated that the party is “open for dialogue.”
