“We are attentive and want to collaborate. André Ventura has left the doors open for negotiation, and we hope the Government will realize there is a preferential partner, unlike last year. This preferential partner was chosen by the Portuguese on May 18, when a majority was given to the right, a majority also reinforced by the Chega party,” he stated.
The vice-president of the Chega bloc addressed journalists at the Assembly of the Republic after a meeting with several government members to discuss the State Budget for 2026, the Middle East conflict, nationality and foreigner laws, and the creation of new parishes.
Rita Matias noted that “what Chega wants is for the Government not to go back and forth.”
“We are the leaders of the opposition and are open to negotiation. However, this is not about how it starts, it’s about how it ends. It starts with Chega open to dialogue, but we won’t tolerate everything, and we emphasize that we don’t want situations like last year to repeat,” she said.
The deputy called for clarity from the Government and that there should be no “repeat of closed-door negotiations or conversations that are later publicly denied.”
