Negotiations are set to begin with unions for enhancing and improving the careers of nature guards based on the significant role they play and the challenges they face, as outlined in a document submitted today to the Assembly of the Republic. These discussions will also aim to increase their numbers.
The document also mentions an increase in resources allocated to the Inspectorate General of Agriculture, Sea, Environment, and Spatial Planning (IGAMAOT) to “enhance its capacity to combat environmental violations.” The government has set the goal of protecting biodiversity and strengthening the management of protected areas.
As per the OE2026, the National Nature Restoration Plan will be completed, and the management of protected areas will be bolstered by deploying “multidisciplinary teams on the ground to be closer to local conservation issues.”
Next year will also see the creation of the “Bio+ Nature Credits Program” to boost funding for the protection of species and habitats.
In animal conservation, programs for priority species like the Iberian lynx and wolf will continue to receive funding and be implemented.
