OE2026: PAN wants to see cuts reversed to combat climate change

In the closing session of the municipal journeys of the Evoluir Figueira coalition (BE/Livre/PAN), held in Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district, Inês Sousa Real highlighted that the fight against climate change remains relevant.

“Unfortunately, both the municipal executives and successive governments have turned a blind eye. We cannot continue to witness more than 700 million euros in cuts to the fight against climate change, investments in fossil fuels, neglect of public transport, and think that old solutions will change the reality while errors persist,” stated the PAN’s sole deputy in parliament.

In her speech, Inês Sousa Real noted that the coalition for the upcoming local elections on October 12 in Figueira da Foz represents values “that are the common ground” of the three parties involved, competing together for the first time in the central coastal municipality.

Outside the session, when asked by Lusa about funding public policies to address climate change, the PAN leader highlighted issues such as coastal protection, deforestation, and heat waves, stressing the importance for public safety.

“What we witnessed from the Government in this 2025 Budget [was] a cut of 700 million euros. PAN advocates not only for investment in free public transport and rewilding in combating climate change but as well as ensuring the country’s security (…) so that this investment in the next State Budget is restored and, above all, executed,” emphasized Inês Sousa Real.
