Lisbon’s Public Security Police (PSP) detained on August 29 six youths aged between 18 and 21 in the Estrela parish for attempted robbery. The crime took place in the Santos-o-Velho area and was witnessed by an off-duty police officer.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP stated that despite being off-duty, the officer intervened to halt the criminal activity and intercept the robbery suspects. The officer waited for on-duty officers from the 4th Police Division, leading to the suspects’ capture and arrest.
The suspects allegedly threatened their victims, reportedly suggesting the use of a knife if their demands were not met, the PSP detailed in the statement. The robbery was not completed as the victims managed to escape.
Thanks to the actions of the involved police officers, particularly the one who was off-duty, the perpetrators of violent crimes were intercepted once again, emphasized the security force.
The detainees have been presented for an initial judicial interrogation, with the coercive measures taken yet to be disclosed.
