The association named ‘AsAP: Associação Seguro a Presidente’ was approved last Wednesday and will primarily handle the administrative and accounting aspects of the candidacy, specifically the collection and management of donations.
The organization’s president, Óscar Gaspar, a former Secretary of State for Health, explained that it is established to fulfill the legal requirements of the candidacy. It will dissolve one year after its formation and will not be involved in the political direction or campaign strategy, which will remain under the responsibility of candidate António José Seguro.
Former PS Secretary-General António José Seguro announced on June 3rd his candidacy for President of the Republic, stating that the country needs “change and hope for a better life” amidst a backdrop of instability and lack of confidence.
“I have decided and I announce today, on the start of a new legislature that will demand much from all of us: I am a candidate for President of the Republic,” he stated in a short video published by TVI/CNN.
Seguro explained his candidacy for Belém by expressing the belief that Portugal “needs change and hope for a better life”.
