On a KC-390 and under adverse conditions. The Force flight that will help Madeira

The more than 70 members of the Joint Operational Force who will help combat the active fire in Madeira landed on the island early Sunday morning aboard a Portuguese Air Force KC-390 aircraft.

The Air Force released images of the moment and reported that the “KC-390 aircraft, from Squadron 506 – ‘Rhinoceros’, took off around 11:40 PM on Saturday from Transit Aerodrome No. 1 in Portela, heading to Madeira International Airport, where it landed around 1:30 AM under adverse weather conditions.”

It’s worth noting that wind has been affecting movement at Madeira International Airport — Cristiano Ronaldo. On Sunday, for example, no planes were able to land or take off.

In addition to the team, composed of 76 members, the aircraft also transported “equipment” for firefighting.

This Joint Operational Force consists of elements from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, Volunteer Firefighters, National Republican Guard, Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, and National Institute of Medical Emergency.

The Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Paulo Ribeiro, accompanied the departure of this contingent to Funchal on Saturday night. The official took the opportunity to thank “all the operatives who, since Wednesday, have been tirelessly fighting to protect” the Madeiran population.

Upon arrival, the 76 members of the Joint Operational Force were received by the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, who expressed “gratitude and appreciation” to this team, as well as to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
