This marks the third consecutive day without train services operating.

“The participation is at 100%. The strike might still have effects tomorrow [Saturday], but they will be minimal. There are no minimum services”, stated António Domingos, president of the National Union of Railway Engineers (SMAQ), to Lusa.

António Domingos further noted that starting Saturday through Wednesday (May 14), train drivers would engage in a strike on additional work.

Numerous worker unions at CP were on strike, which halted services on Wednesday and Thursday.

The strikes on Wednesday and Thursday were organized by the Association of Trade Unions of Intermediate Railway Operations Leadership (ASCEF), the Independent Trade Union Association for Commercial Rail Career Workers (ASSIFECO), the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS), the National Union of Transport Communications and Public Works (FENTCOP), the National Union of Movement and Related Railway Workers (SINAFE), the National Democratic Railway Union (SINDEFER), the Independent Trade Union of Infrastructure Railway Workers and Relatives (SINFA), the National Independent Railway Workers’ Union (SINFB), the National Union of Transport and Industry Workers (SINTTI), the Independent Union of Operational Railway Workers and Related (SIOFA), the National Union of Technical Staff (SNAQ), the National Union of Workers in the Railway Sector (SNTSF), the Railway Transport Workers’ Union (STF), and the Subway and Railway Workers’ Union (STMEFE).

Joining the strike on Thursday was the Train Engineers Union (SMAQ), which is the only union on strike today.

The Itinerant Commercial Revision Railway Union (SFRCI), representing ticket inspectors and ticket office workers, has scheduled a partial strike between 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. from Sunday to Wednesday (May 11-14). On Sunday and Wednesday, the strike only affects long-distance trains.

For this strike, 25% of minimum services have been declared.

This strike was called in opposition to the imposition of salary increases “that do not restore purchasing power,” for “collective bargaining of worthy salary increases,” and the “implementation of the salary table restructuring agreement as negotiated and agreed upon,” according to the unions.
