A person was killed this afternoon following the explosion of a boiler at the Exide (Tudor) battery factory in the industrial zone of Castanheira do Ribatejo, municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, according to Civil Protection authorities.
According to the sub-regional command of Greater Lisbon, from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), “the explosion of a boiler at Exide Technologies” resulted in “one fatality” at 4:15 PM in Castanheira do Ribatejo.
The company, located on Avenida Carlos Leal, deployed 15 operatives supported by six vehicles from the Castanheira do Ribatejo Volunteer Firefighters, along with personnel from the National Republican Guard (GNR), the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), and the Authority for Working Conditions.
Civil Protection sources noted that the firefighters did not need to fight any flames, as they had been contained after the boiler explosion in the battery factory area.
