A fatality occurred involving a motorcyclist who was confirmed dead at the scene, as reported by Tiago Santos, the commander of the Vila Franca do Campo Volunteer Firefighters. The deceased was the driver of one of the motorcycles involved in the crash.
The injured, a man and a woman, were transported by firefighters to the emergency department of the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada.
The accident took place on the expressway heading from Ponta Delgada towards Lagoa, at the exit leading to Pisão.
The alert was issued to firefighters at 10:16 AM local time (11:16 AM in Lisbon).
Police authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“I was informed that both motorcycles were traveling in the same direction. Something seemed to have occurred, causing them to collide, which led to both of them veering off course,” commander Tiago Santos added.
Members of the Vila Franca do Campo and Ponta Delgada Volunteer Firefighters, along with the PSP, were present at the scene.
