A man was arrested and 15 others were identified following a control and identification operation targeting suspects in an abandoned building on the morning of August 13 in the Arroios district of Lisbon.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Thursday, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported that the operation took place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The focus was on an empty building that “facilitates the entry of strangers.”
According to the PSP, these individuals “ended up spending the night there, consuming narcotics, and engaging in various uncivil behaviors.”
“Thus, it was possible to identify 15 foreign citizens who were staying there illegally,” the authority explained.
Of these 15, two were taken to the station for pending matters, resulting in the execution of an arrest warrant.
In the note, the PSP thanks the public for “information related to situations that could lead to insecurity, even if they do not fall under criminal acts, and highlights the importance of managing public spaces, particularly by reducing accessible abandoned buildings, which have the potential to create insecurity and danger.”
