In the Cascais Captaincy area alone, at least 54 rescues were carried out this Saturday.
One person is missing in Praia da Vieira, Marinha Grande, and searches are underway. This Saturday, dozens of people were rescued from the sea in various parts of Portugal.
The information was given to Renascença by Commander Sousa Luís, spokesman for the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
In Praia da Vieira, two bathers got into difficulty. One person managed to reach land, but another is missing at sea.
On a Saturday with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, thousands of people took the opportunity to go to the beach (most of them unattended at this time of year), but the “winter sea” calls for special precautions.
Commander Sousa Luís reports dozens of rescues on various beaches from the north to the south of the country.
For example, in the Cascais Captaincy area alone, at least 54 rescues were carried out this Saturday, in Ericeira, Carcavelos and Tamariz.
“In Carcavelos there were 42 rescues, with one slightly injured, and in Praia do Tamariz there were six people rescued, all by people.”
In the Praia do Tamariz incident, two underage boys were taken to hospital in a serious condition, along with a young woman in a minor condition.
At Praia do Sul, in Ericeira, two bathers were pulled from the sea by people. Further south, at Praia da Comporta, three people were also rescued by locals.
Meanwhile, the search for the 16-year-old Moroccan boy who disappeared on Friday afternoon at Salgueiros beach in Vila Nova de Gaia “was called off late this afternoon without the victim having been found,” the National Maritime Authority said in a statement. The search will resume on Sunday morning.
