Open competition to support A Oficina, Artemrede, and Comédias do Minho

The Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes) announced today that three organizations, which previously benefited from sustained arts funding, no longer qualify for the Sustainable Support Program following the 2021 revision of the Arts Support Law due to their predominantly municipal nature.

The introduction of the new Partnership Support Program via a restricted competition is justified by the “important ongoing work and the artistic significance of these entities, as well as the impact they have on their areas of operation.”

The organizations invited to submit applications for the competition are A Oficina – Centro de Artes e Mesteres Tradicionais de Guimarães, Artemrede – Teatros Associados, and Comédias do Minho – Associação para a Promoção de Atividades Culturais no Vale do Minho.

The support provided aims to finance activities in Performing Arts (including circus, dance, music, opera, and theater), Street Arts, and Cross-disciplinary projects, covering areas such as Creation, Programming, Training, Strategic Mediation, as well as Publishing, National Circulation, Internationalization, and Research.

A Oficina, primarily owned by the Guimarães Municipal Council, manages several venues in this northern city, including the Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães, the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, and the Casa da Memória.

Artemrede, based in Santarém, includes several municipalities from the Central and Southern regions of Portugal, such as Abrantes, Oeiras, Almada, Alcanena, Pombal, Sesimbra, and Torres Vedras, among its members.

Comédias do Minho, established in 2003 in the Vale do Minho, collaborates with five municipalities – Melgaço, Monção, Paredes de Coura, Valença, and Vila Nova de Cerveira.
