Open House Porto is back today and Sunday for the eighth edition, under the theme “Brand new in Architecture”, with an itinerary of free visits to 52 spaces in Maia, Matosinhos, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Curated by Pedro Baía and Magda Seifert, the theme is inspired by a 1959 text by Nuno Portas entitled “The responsibility of a brand new generation in the modern movement in Portugal.
“The term ‘novissimo’ also serves as a pretext for us to discover some of the most interesting and ‘novíssimas’ works completed in the last five years, such as the rehabilitation of the Bolhão Market by Nuno Valentim and Rita Machado Lima, the project for the Campanhã Intermodal Terminal by Nuno Brandão Costa, the new facilities of the ESAP [Escola Superior Artística do Porto] by Fátima Fernandes and Michele Cannatà or the project for the Casa Submarino by Ivo Poças Martins,” can be read in a text from the curators.
Thus, buildings such as the Boa Nova Tea House and the Piscina das Marés in Matosinhos, the Batalha Cinema in Porto, or the Cedro School in Vila Nova de Gaia, among many others, will be part of Open House Porto.
Open House Porto is part of Open House Worldwide, an international event promoting architecture and built heritage, created in London in 1992 by Victoria Thornton.
With more than 20 years of history, this event now extends to more than 50 cities around the world.
