The Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) reported 40 irregularities detected during an operation conducted last Thursday and Friday, resulting in 38 environmental infractions.
Of these, 14 were issued to owners of end-of-life vehicles for failing to send their vehicles to authorized centers for disposal, and another 14 for violations of municipal regulations, specifically for performing car repairs in public spaces.
The PSP also identified six violations involving the sale and display of native or exotic animals and plants without proper licensing, three related to the failure to send waste to certified operators, and one for engaging in waste management activities without a license.
During this second operation of its kind, two fines were issued for violations of various legislations.
The “Operação Planeta Azul” aimed to reinforce the enforcement of laws concerning the treatment and accommodation of animals (both pets and protected species), safeguard water quality, protect water resources, and prevent and combat harmful behaviors against nature and the environment.
This operation involved the PSP’s Environmental Protection Brigades (BriPA) nationwide, in a coordinated effort of prevention, awareness, and enforcement.
Authorities remind citizens interested in acquiring or adopting animals or plants, particularly non-native wild species, to inform themselves beforehand about their legality and protection status, thus helping to avoid practices that may endanger environmental balance and biodiversity.
The PSP urges citizens to respect animal rights, encouraging the reporting of situations involving mistreatment and/or abandonment directly at police stations or through the Defense Program’s email.
Through its BriPA, the PSP reaffirms its commitment to defending forests, natural resources, and the environment, emphasizing, “The planet is unique! Preserve it! Caring for the environment and forest is everyone’s responsibility!”
