António Leitão Amaro faced questions following the Council of Ministers meeting regarding a report by the magazine Sábado. The report included summaries of transcripts of wiretaps involving former Prime Minister António Costa, as part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation named Operation Influencer. This investigation centered on the installation of a data center in Sines, which led to Costa’s resignation from the government in November 2023.
“I have nothing to say about wiretaps, really nothing. I believe the Council of Ministers briefing is not the appropriate forum for that issue, as there was no discussion about it,” he stated.
Despite persistent inquiries from journalists on the subject, Leitão Amaro reiterated his unwillingness to comment “on the content or the disclosure of wiretaps” by a media outlet.
“Not at this Council of Ministers. Perhaps soon at a Council of Ministers press conference, there might be something to say about justice, but not today. Today is not the day,” he noted.
“Today is the day to discuss digitalization, the return of foreigners in an illegal situation, agriculture, environment, infrastructure,” he remarked, highlighting the topics approved in today’s Council of Ministers meeting.
