The PSP has announced that the summer period traditionally brings significant demographic changes, particularly with the influx of thousands of tourists to Portugal.
Additionally, family trips to holiday destinations, the return of popular festivals, summer festivals, and the opening of the bathing season are noted.
The PSP intends to focus its operational capacity to “enhance the sense of security in beachside, tourist, and commercial areas, nightlife zones, residential areas, and main roadways.”
Special attention will be given to roadways serving beach areas, which experience higher traffic of people and vehicles, as well as increased public transport usage.
The authority will also maintain a “strong police presence on access routes to main interurban roadways” during traditional holiday travel, especially towards the southern region of the country.
There will be an increased police presence on beaches, in nightlife areas, and other places with high seasonal foot traffic (tourist areas, summer festivals, parties).
Security will be bolstered at national airports and in air border control.
The PSP will enhance visibility, prevention, and oversight in road safety, both for major family trips to holiday locations and for return journeys to vacation spots.
Moreover, the PSP offers the Safe Summer — Direct Key program and the I’m Here! Children program.
The “PSP Operation — Portugal Safer Place” will be implemented to encourage tourists to adopt self-protection measures, enhancing their security and that of their belongings in various contexts to reduce opportunities for criminal activities.
During the operation, the PSP will provide various security tips pertaining to road safety, theft prevention, residential protection, self-protection measures, and child safety on its website and social media platforms.
