Operation Portugal Always Safe results in 30 detained in three days

The SSI has announced that from November 26 to 29, the “Portugal Sempre Seguro” operation, which unites various police forces and state entities, monitored 4,978 people, over 1,550 vehicles, nine vessels, and 195 establishments.

During the operations, 25 individuals were arrested, with more than half for road-related crimes, primarily for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 24 crimes were recorded, over half being road offenses.

The authorities involved in the operations also recorded 528 offenses, 64% of which were road-related, including 20% concerning alcohol.

There were 42 operations conducted on the mainland and autonomous regions, involving GNR, PSP, Polícia Judiciária, ASAE, AT, and ACT, with 875 personnel, supported by 226 vehicles and 11 canine units (teams consisting of an officer and a dog).

The “Portugal Sempre Seguro” operation, held for the second time this year, started at the end of October to enhance public safety, prevent crimes, and deter risky behaviors, focusing particularly on road checks and establishments, especially nightspots and restaurants.

Last year’s “Portugal Sempre Seguro” operation, whose final results were not disclosed, faced criticism from left-wing parties for having a focus on detecting immigrants in irregular situations.
