The Ministry of Education has indicated that the decree from the Director-General for Higher Education, detailing the schedule, will be released “soon.” This annual approval of regulations is essential for preparing the national competition for admission to public higher education.
The regulation established by the current decree sets forth the rules applicable to the national competition for admission to courses offered by public higher education institutions for the academic year 2025-2026. These rules are largely similar to those in effect in the previous year, according to the decree published in the Diário da República.
The competition will proceed in three phases, as is customary, and applications must be submitted online via the website of the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).
To access the application system, students are required to request a password through the DGES’s website.
The deadline for submitting applications will be determined by an official order from the Director-General for Higher Education.
All necessary information is available on the DGES website, including details about the national competition regulations, entrance exams, prerequisites, regional and educational preferences, minimum scores, the formula for calculating admission scores, and available places.
The decree will come into effect on Monday.
