Ovar Town Hall announced today that its building will undergo renovations in 2025 to ensure accessibility for citizens with reduced mobility and increase the efficiency of services by reorganizing workspaces.

The architectural project for the construction work on the head office building of this Aveiro district municipality has already been approved and the overall cost of the work is estimated at 650,000 euros, and the work will take “no more than 150 days” to complete.

For the mayor, Domingos Silva, it is a question, on the one hand, of implementing effective equal opportunities, since “anyone must be able to physically access the municipal services without difficulty”, and, on the other, it is intended to reformulate the physical layout of the offices “where some of the organic units of the municipality are located, increasing their efficiency”.

The announced intervention is still awaiting the preparation of the respective specialty projects, but will mainly focus on eliminating physical and architectural barriers in the town hall building and in the property between Rua Teixeira de Queirós and Rua Heliodoro Salgado.

In the main Paços do Concelho building, the work will focus on the Single Service Desk, which will now have direct access from Rua Teixeira de Queirós, and on creating sanitary facilities suitable for people with reduced mobility.

In the building between Rua Teixeira de Queirós and Rua Heliodoro Salgado, “the first floor will be completely restructured”, which will allow “optimization of the useful space available and the reorganization of services”, and “the entire second floor” will also be reorganized, so that municipal services can be housed there, including “a shared meeting room”.

The mayor also points out that a connecting area will be created between these municipal buildings and that, as part of the same work, “an elevator will be installed that will allow access to any part of the two buildings”.
