Pacheco de Amorim elected vice-president of the Assembly of the Republic

The vote, conducted by secret ballot, took place in the morning with results announced in plenary before a lunch break. Today, the parliament debates the government’s program.

Diogo Pacheco de Amorim received 145 votes in favor, 68 blank, and 12 null, while Filipe Melo obtained 122 votes in favor with an equal number of blank and null votes.

“They are declared elected,” was announced, followed by applause from the Chega bench.

In the initial voting on the first day of the legislature, the two deputies were just a few votes short of the absolute majority necessary for election, at least 116.

Diogo Pacheco de Amorim had received 115 votes in favor, 115 blank, and zero null, while Filipe Melo got 113 votes in favor, 117 blank, and zero null.

At that time, Chega’s president, André Ventura, accused PSD and PS of “betrayal” and “attempting a cordon sanitaire against the second party.”

The only Chega candidate elected on June 3rd was Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro, who was reelected as secretary of the Table of the Assembly of the Republic. He received 131 votes in favor, 99 blank, and zero null.

Diogo Pacheco de Amorim, Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro, and Filipe Melo had already performed these functions in the previous legislature.
