A 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were apprehended for stealing fuel from an industrial machine in Aljustrel on May 8.
The arrests followed an investigation into fuel theft that had been ongoing for approximately a month. The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) reported in a statement released on Friday that officers carried out “police measures that allowed them to locate the suspect vehicle near industrial machines.”
The statement further revealed that the suspects were caught “at the moment they were stealing the fuel.”
“Following the operation, a vehicle approach and search confirmed that the suspects were in possession of stolen fuel, which led to their immediate arrest,” the statement added.
The authorities recovered and seized 60 liters of diesel, a jerry can, a hose, and a vehicle.
The young individuals have been named as formal suspects, and the case has been referred to the Judicial Court of Ourique.
This operation was conducted by the Beja Territorial Command, through the Criminal Investigation Nucleus (NIC) of Aljustrel, with the assistance of the Aljustrel, Ourique, and Castro Verde Territorial Posts.
