A paragliding enthusiast is missing after plunging into the sea south of Furnas beach, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo.
The alarm was raised at approximately 5:20 PM, when a bystander in the area informed emergency services about “paragliding equipment in the water,” detailed the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.
“Members of the Sagres Lifesaving Station were dispatched to the location, where they found and retrieved the equipment, promptly initiating search efforts,” the statement added.
The operations, overseen by the harbor master and local commander of the Lagos Maritime Police, involve crewmembers from the Sagres Lifesaving Station, personnel from the Local Command of the Lagos Maritime Police, and members of the Vila do Bispo Volunteer Firefighters.
Additionally, two drones from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command (CREPCA) have been deployed.
