Portuguese band Evols are the first acts to perform today at the Paredes de Coura festival in Alto Minho, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a line-up that includes Jessie Ware, Little Simz and Fever Ray.
In this edition of the festival, which runs until Saturday on the river beach at Taboão, there are around 50 bands and artists, such as London post-punk band Dry Cleaning, singer and guitarist Snail Mail, musician Loulé Carner, The Walkmen and Black Midi, Wilco and Explosions in The Sky.
The concerts are spread over three stages, with the first chords sounding at 5pm and the last concerts in the early hours of the morning.
This year also sees the return of the Americans Yo La Tengo, who were at the festival in 2000, and the British duo Sleaford Mods, who played in Coura in 2016.
There were also several Portuguese artists, such as Garota Não, Expresso Transatlântico, Raquel Martins, Aníbal Zola and Chinaskee.
The Paredes de Coura festival took place for the first time in 1993 on the initiative of a group of friends and the one-day line-up featured Ecos da Cave, Gangrena, Cosmic City Blues, Boucabaca and Purple Lips.
All the information about the festival, including access to camping and good environmental practices on the site, which is natural, wooded and next to the River Coura, can be found at vodafoneparedesdecoura.com.
