The family of Ana Paula Lopes, one of the employees of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa who lost her life in the tragic Elevador da Glória accident, requested privacy on the day of the funeral, which took place this Saturday.
The family had lost another child two years ago, as mentioned by a neighbor. Ana Paula Lopes, originally from Vergão in Proença-a-Nova, was married and had a daughter.
In an interview, a former tram operator from the same locality expressed deep sadness over the deaths and mentioned that Ana Paula Lopes was “a very good friend.”
Ana Paula Lopes was among the five Portuguese fatalities and one of four employees from Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, attended the funeral services for Ana Paula Lopes, where approximately 500 people gathered to pay their final respects.

The identities of 10 out of the 16 fatalities in the Elevador da Glória derailment have been confirmed. All Portuguese victims of the tragedy have been identified.

Later on Saturday, the Department of Aircraft and Railway Accident Prevention and Investigation (GPIAAF) released a preliminary report on the accident.
The report confirms that “the cable connecting the two cabins” of the Elevador da Glória “gave way at its fixing point within cabin no. 1.”
