This bill was only supported by the PSD and CDS votes and was passed due to the abstentions from Chega and PS.
Livre, PCP, BE, and Iniciativa Liberal voted against the final cap, which resulted from a government proposal aiming to incorporate an EU directive on combating terrorist cybercrime on the internet into national law.
In the initial version of the bill, the government granted the PJ the authority to block or remove online content deemed terrorist without prior judicial intervention.
Through consensus, members of the constitutional affairs committee agreed to introduce changes requiring PJ’s blocking interventions to be validated by a judicial authority, with an exception allowing urgent actions by the police.
Today, the final text by the constitutional affairs committee, which authorizes the government to transpose the EU directive on ensuring a high common level of cybersecurity, was also approved by the PSD and CDS, with abstentions from Chega and IL.
