The Social Democrat initiative, which without specifying exact figures, urges the Government to enhance dialogue in social consultation to “continue progressing in the gradual increase of citizens’ income,” particularly the minimum and average salaries, was passed with opposition from PCP and IL, abstentions from PS and Livre, and support from the remaining parties.
Proposals from PCP, BE, and Livre, all advocating for an additional minimum wage increase in 2026, were rejected with PSD, CDS-PP, and IL voting against them, PS abstaining, and favorable votes from the rest of the left and Chega.
The PCP’s resolution recommended raising the national minimum wage to 1,050 euros in 2026. The BE aimed for an increase to 1,020 euros, while Livre sought 965 euros in 2026, with a commitment to reach 1,250 euros by 2029.
The PAN also faced rejection, with opposition from CDS, IL, and PSD, and abstentions from PS and PCP, for an initiative proposing an annual minimum wage increase that fully incorporates inflation, previous year’s labor productivity variation, and other economic growth factors, ensuring an annual supplement of 25 euros, to reach 1,130 euros by 2029.
