In Lisbon’s urban transport network, out of 201 scheduled trains, 139 were canceled, while in long-distance services, 22 out of the 24 planned trains did not operate, according to the carrier.

In Porto, 87 urban connections were scheduled, and 58 were canceled, with regional trains seeing 86 of the 102 planned services not running.

A representative from SFRCI – Sindicato Ferroviário da Revisão Comercial Itinerante stated that the partial strike by ticket inspectors and ticket office workers of CP began at 5:00 a.m. and ends at 8:30 a.m. The participation in the strike was 100%, and only the 25% minimum services decreed by the Arbitration Court are being performed.

“The partial strike began at 5:00 a.m. and concludes at 8:30 a.m., but its effects are expected throughout the morning. The strike participation is at 100%, with only the 25% of minimum services being fulfilled,” said Luís Bravo of SFRCI.

The union representative emphasized that the strike aims to demand better salary conditions for all company employees.

“The partial strike continues until Tuesday, with some impact expected on Wednesday, the 14th,” he mentioned.

Luís Bravo highlighted that the strike “clearly shows the workers’ dissatisfaction” over low wages since 2010.

From Wednesday to Friday, several unions were on strike with no minimum services in place, resulting in a complete halt in operations.

The workers are demanding the fulfillment of the agreement reached on April 24 between CP’s management and the unions, insisting that “the Government should not claim credit for the negotiation and then evade its responsibilities in implementation.”
