A 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in Marinha Grande for illegal immigration, as announced by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Leiria District Command reported that the foreign citizen approached the Marinha Grande police station at 11 a.m. to report the loss of his passport.
The PSP conducted inquiries to investigate the man’s status within the national territory.
“From these inquiries, it was determined that his application for a residence permit had been denied, and as such, he was notified by AIMA to voluntarily leave the national territory by July 22, 2025,” the statement reads.
After appearing for an initial judicial interrogation, the suspect was released but with a coercive measure of identity and residence terms, while awaiting the organization of a coercive removal process by AIMA.
The PSP of Leiria assures that it remains vigilant regarding the dynamics involving migration and related phenomena, intensifying inspection actions “with a view to fulfilling the PSP’s responsibilities in air border control and the stay of foreigners within the national territory.”
