“Partly cloudy” skies and temperature rise: Here’s the weather for Thursday

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has released the weather forecast for mainland Portugal for Thursday, October 9. It appears that autumn is still far off.

The IPMA’s Facebook note states that the sky will be “mostly clear or clear.” However, in the Central coast and Southern regions, “cloudy periods until mid-morning” may occur.

In the afternoon, these cloudy periods could be seen “in the mountainous areas of the interior.”

The wind is expected to be “light to moderate.” Nevertheless, “occasionally strong” winds could blow in highland areas until mid-morning and from late afternoon.

Maximum temperatures will “rise,” particularly “in some areas of the Northern and Central coast.” Meanwhile, there will be a “slight decrease on the southern coast of the Algarve.”

Already thinking about the weekend?

Weather forecasts for the coming days indicate that, at least until the local elections scheduled for Sunday, October 12, weather conditions will remain stable in mainland Portugal and Madeira. The only exception will be the Autonomous Region of the Azores, where most islands will experience rain and wind.

According to the IPMA, the sky is expected to be mostly clear across almost all of mainland Portugal, with temperatures exceeding 25ºC in most districts, and even reaching 30ºC in some cases.

Good weather until the elections? Here are the forecasts for the coming days

Weather conditions are expected to remain stable at least until the elections, in mainland Portugal and Madeira. Only in the Azores will the next few days likely see rain, particularly in the Western and Central groups of the archipelago.

A depression is heading toward the Iberian Peninsula

The depression Alice is approaching the Iberian Peninsula. The first storm of this autumn is expected to bring heavy rain to Spain, but Portugal may avoid the worst.

Although it is set to be felt in the neighboring country starting Wednesday night, according to the IPMA, the “mentioned depression should not have significant effects on the weather in mainland Portugal.”

In Portugal, the only consequence that depression Alice might bring between Thursday and Saturday, October 9 to 11, is “scattered showers in the southern region during the afternoon, especially in the inland areas.” The IPMA also does not rule out the possibility of thunderstorms.

Depression Alice heading to the Iberian Peninsula. Spain on alert (and here?)

Here, the only consequence of the storm should be the occurrence of showers in the South, particularly in the inland areas, from Thursday to Saturday afternoons.
