According to a statement released by the company today, between January and September of this year, Lisbon Airport handled 27.4 million passengers, marking a 2.8% increase; Porto reached 12.9 million, up by 5.8%; Faro saw 8.4 million passengers, an increase of 6.1%; Madeira recorded 4.3 million, up by 13%; and the Azores welcomed 2.7 million, marking a 3.1% rise.
Focusing on the third quarter, which includes the summer months, there was a 4.6% increase, resulting in a total of 22 million passengers across all facilities. Madeira stood out with a notable increase of 16%, compared to the same period last year.
The number of commercial flights rose by 3.7% in the first nine months of the year.
“In Portugal, the summer season was marked by solid traffic growth in Lisbon and even stronger growth in Porto, Faro, and Funchal, with an average increase of 7% across these four airports,” Vinci stated in the release.
The company highlighted that in Lisbon, European connections, particularly with Germany and Italy, serviced by low-cost airlines, and long-haul traffic with the United States and Brazil were key drivers. Meanwhile, the airports of Porto and Faro continue to attract many passengers from the United Kingdom and Germany.
Globally, Vinci Airports reported “strong traffic growth in the third quarter, receiving 94 million passengers, a 4.2% increase compared to the previous year, equating to 3.8 million additional travelers.”
The group operates in more than 70 airports worldwide.
