The Health Regulation Authority (ERS) is currently examining a case involving a patient exhibiting stroke symptoms who reportedly received medical attention over two hours after the initial emergency call in Albufeira, located in the Faro district.
In response to inquiries from Notícias ao Minuto, the Health Regulation Authority stated on Friday that it “is analyzing the situation and will take appropriate action if any facts warrant intervention under its legal responsibilities.”
The incident, first reported by Correio da Manhã on Wednesday, took place on April 30 and was related to a malfunction of two ambulances belonging to the Red Cross, according to the same publication.
Upon returning home, the patient’s wife discovered the 82-year-old man showing signs of a stroke. He was unable to speak and had a right-side inclination.
The diagnosis was confirmed by the Faro Hospital, where the patient was admitted. He remains hospitalized, unable to speak and requiring feeding through a tube.
The family has lodged a formal complaint regarding the incident.
