At midnight, following the musician’s concert, the song ‘Grândola Vila Morena’ by Zeca Afonso will be sung, with participation from the Grupo Cantares de Évora, and this will be followed by a fireworks display.
The festivities marking the 51st anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in Évora commence on April 23 with small performances by the collective Vozes de Abril across various city locations, extending until May 1.
Additionally, on April 23 at 6:30 PM, a commemorative concert by the Coro Polifónico Eborae Mvsica will take place at Palácio de D. Manuel, followed by the anniversary celebration of Sociedade Harmonia Eborense at 10:00 PM in Praça do Giraldo.
For April 25, planned activities include sports events at the children’s park, family art activities at the playground, a lunch at Arena d’Évora, and an evening concert by Vozes de Abril with the Alentejo String Orchestra in Praça do Giraldo.
The celebrations also feature the online project ‘Antigamente é que era bom!’, developed by the Ai Filhas collective, shared on social media platforms.
This project, according to the municipality’s website, “commemorates the 50th anniversary of April 25th with 50 videos that link testimonies of rural women workers from Évora county to the changes brought about by the Portuguese Republic Constitution.”
