“Local elections have this particular feature; they are campaigns rooted in the ground, closely connected to people. People know each other, and I don’t see any major waves of indecision today,” Paulo Raimundo told journalists after casting his ballot at polling station 16 at the Basic School of Alhos Vedros, in Quinta Fonte da Prata, in the municipality of Moita, where 807 voters are registered.
The communist leader mentioned that the future of the municipal map would reflect the people’s will, expressing uncertainty about whether it would significantly differ from 2021.
After voting, Paulo Raimundo plans to spend the day with his family, as revealed, and then head to the PCP headquarters in Lisbon to follow the election results.
Over 9.3 million voters are eligible to vote in these local elections, according to registration data provided by the Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI).
Of the 9,303,840 registered voters, 9,262,722 are nationals, while the remaining 18,319 are EU foreign voters and 22,799 are non-EU foreign voters, both registered within national territory.
Voters will elect the governing bodies of 308 Municipal Chambers, 308 Municipal Assemblies, and 3,221 Parish Assemblies, resulting in three ballots for each voter.
In total, 1,584 lists of parties, coalitions, and citizen groups are running for the Municipal Chambers, 1,519 for the Municipal Assemblies, and 9,764 lists for Parish Assemblies, according to the most recent data from the MAI Secretariat-General.
