At a rally in Alpiarça, Santarém district, Paulo Raimundo refrained from commenting on the Spinumviva case from a formal and judicial perspective, stating it is up to those responsible to address the issue. However, he emphasized a political point of view.
“We warned at the time that the Prime Minister should have resigned when this started to emerge. He believed that was not the solution, forced elections, and pushed this problem forward,” he criticized.
Paulo Raimundo recalled that during his televised debate with Luís Montenegro in the legislative campaign, he warned him that “the outcome of the election would neither solve nor clear the problem” connected “to his companies and business dealings.”
“There it is. It’s a matter that will unfortunately continue for a long time. We shouldn’t have been pushed into this situation; the Portuguese people shouldn’t have been pushed into this situation,” he stated.
When asked about Luís Montenegro’s remarks, who said he was “stunned and outraged” by the news regarding the Spinumviva case, Paulo Raimundo expressed his understanding of Montenegro’s “indignation.”
“But it was obvious, I even warned him about it, confronted him with it. I found it strange that it didn’t come up more during the election campaign, but, well, everyone assumes their responsibilities. I warned him on the judicial and political plan. Now, we are confronted with that,” he said.
The Prime Minister today expressed being “stunned and outraged” by the news about the Spinumviva case, describing it as “outrageous” and awaiting the “analysis and judgment of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) clarified today that the preventive investigation related to Spinumviva is ongoing, with the Public Prosecutor’s Office still awaiting documents, meaning the investigation continues.
“There is currently no conclusion formed that would allow closing the said preventive investigation, and nothing has been proposed to the Attorney General of the Republic in this domain,” reads a PGR statement.
