“We can only count on the strength we have. We cannot rely on television cameras. We cannot expect extraordinary news. We cannot expect some sudden reaction from me to make the news for 15 days. We cannot rely on any of that because it will not happen. I will not have a simulated spasm, nor will the cameras follow us,” said Paulo Raimundo.
The secretary-general of the PCP spoke at a rally in Aveiro, attended by the candidate of the coalition between the PCP and the ecological party “Os Verdes” for the local council presidency, Isabel Tavares.
Raimundo expressed uncertainty about the outcome of the municipal elections on October 12 but was confident that their mobilization and clarification efforts would bear fruit and results.
“Some results will be electoral, and others will be an expansion of the ongoing struggle,” he added.
The communist leader also highlighted the CDU’s efforts in preparing candidate lists for the municipal elections, emphasizing that the coalition of PCP and “Os Verdes” is “the only force in mainland Portugal and Madeira contesting all municipal bodies, be it councils or municipal assemblies.”
Paulo Raimundo noted that the CDU lists include 35,000 candidates, 45% of whom are women, and also mentioned the presence of 12,000 independents.
“They are independents and are not here just for show. They are here to be builders and protagonists of this very force. We need them here. We want them to be more and to further expand CDU to all these people,” he concluded.
