The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, stated on Tuesday, in Brussels, that he is “free as a bird” and would feel “happy as a minister” or “not as a minister” in the new government, emphasizing that this outcome does not depend on him.
“I will be happy with any outcome,” he emphasized.
When asked about the possibility of dialogue with the party Chega, Paulo Rangel stressed that “election results are what they are” and that they must “respect the will of the voters.”
“I think that knowing the position AD has taken for a long time regarding forming or not forming coalitions with other parties, I believe this answer is very clear about how we understand whether it is possible to collaborate,” he noted.
He added, “This does not mean that, from case to case, as happened last year, I saw many cases of convergence, even between the extreme-left and the party Chega, interestingly. There were votes where only these parties voted in favor. I also saw it with the Socialist Party. Therefore, it is evident that there can be many situations where there is convergence on concrete measures, which has nothing to do with forming coalitions.”
The minister also highlighted that the government is open to dialogue, as “happened in the previous legislature,” where there was “openness to speak with everyone.”
