The Évora Municipal Committee of the party acknowledged that the CDU (PCP/PEV coalition) experienced “a reduction in electoral expression” in terms of votes and mandates, notably losing the presidency of the municipal chamber, held for 12 years.
There was also “a decrease in representation in the municipal assembly and elected officials in parish assemblies,” although the CDU won the presidency of three parish councils, one more than in the 2021 local elections, it emphasized.
The communist structure remarked that the results in the municipality of Évora “are inseparable from a political framework that conditioned” the current mandate, recalling that the CDU governed the chamber in minority, with two elected members out of seven.
This CDU management was “subject to blockades and diverse management boycotts,” it noted, pointing out that even so, the coalition entered these elections “with the financial recovery of the municipal chamber and accomplished work.”
The PCP added that “even in a complex and difficult scenario,” its elected members “will act responsibly for a path of progress, using the strength now obtained to prevent setbacks in investment and development conditions.”
In the municipal elections on October 12, the socialist Carlos Zorrinho was elected as the President of the Évora Chamber, reclaiming the municipality for the PS, 12 years after losing it to the coalition led by the PCP.
The PS won with 29.83% of the votes (three elected), followed by the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition with 29.26% (two elected), the CDU with 15.82% of the votes (one elected), and Chega with 13.94% (one elected), according to the Ministry of Internal Administration.
