“This is a budget that serves the interests of Brussels, economic groups, and multinationals,” criticized Paulo Raimundo in a speech concluding the specialty discussion of the State Budget proposal for 2026 in the Assembly of the Republic.
The General Secretary of the PCP argued that for economic groups and multinationals, “there are never concerns about balancing public accounts,” and for them, “the deficit is never an issue.”
“All the lamentation only matters when it comes to raising wages, pensions, and allowances, to enhancing meal subsidies, careers, professions, and public services. (…) This was the scenario of the Budget, with the system’s mourners shedding crocodile tears over the PCP’s proposals,” he accused.
Paulo Raimundo then criticized the PS for enabling the Government’s proposal, emphasizing that when the State Budget is passed in the final global vote, “PSD and CDS will stand up and applaud enthusiastically.”
“The PS does not applaud but cannot escape having supported a Budget and the policy it expresses,” he criticized, before suggesting that the socialists did a favor to Chega and IL by abstaining.
“Chega and IL will smile [when the Budget is approved], with a sense of duty fulfilled and immense gratitude to the PS for allowing them to vote against a Budget with which they deeply agree,” he stated.
