The PCP councilors expressed their solidarity and condolences to the victims and families of the tragic accident that occurred today at the Elevador da Glória, the statement sent to Lusa declares.
The PCP also commended the workers of various services from the Lisbon City Council (CML) and all entities involved in the rescue efforts for the victims.
The party also conveyed to the CML president, Carlos Moedas, the need for an extraordinary meeting of the CML “as soon as possible”.
The Elevador da Glória, in Lisbon, derailed this Wednesday at 18:04 on the Calçada da Glória.
The INEM announced that the accident resulted in 15 deaths and 18 injuries, including five in serious condition and 13 with minor injuries.
The Government has declared a national day of mourning for this Thursday.
The Elevador da Glória, operated by Carris, connects the Restauradores to the Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara in Bairro Alto, over an approximately 265-meter route, and is very popular with tourists.
