The PSD will engage with parties aligned with its legislative interests, including Chega. The PSD has chosen a path that serves various interests, facilitated by agendas, one of which Chega represents, he stated.
Speaking to journalists during a public event in Alcácer do Sal, Setúbal district, the communist leader highlighted the “circus” surrounding the Budget of State (OE2026) discussion to emphasize his point.
“This is merely entertainment; engaging with all, claiming to consider everyone’s opinions while the main issues on the table involve dismantling the National Health Service, tightening pressures on wages, and increasing fiscal benefits for major economic groups, certainly not contributions from our side,” he remarked.
Concerning the measures presented on Thursday by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro regarding housing, the PCP’s secretary-general stated that the country experiences “different realities.”
“If we consider that the prime minister and the government view a rent of 2,300 euros as moderately priced, it’s evident we live in different realities, certainly in different countries,” he argued.
He recalled that the lighthouse Luís Montenegro referred to during the fortnightly debate is “for a select few.”
“We have 2.7 million workers earning up to one thousand euros gross salary, two million people living in poverty, nearly a million workers earning the minimum national wage of 870 euros gross, and the prime minister deems 2,300 euros a moderate rent,” he criticized.
The country needs “to reduce rents and house prices, but the government is doing the opposite, and someone stands to gain significantly,” predicted Paulo Raimundo.
The PCP’s secretary-general also suggested ending the new labor law to avoid “more precariousness, fixed-term contracts, more people on freelance contracts, and deregulated working hours.”
