“We only count on the strength we have. Let’s not rely on television cameras. Let’s not expect extraordinary news. Let’s not hope for me to have some sort of spasm to keep me on television for 15 days back and forth. We won’t rely on any of that because it’s not going to happen. Nor will I have a simulated spasm, nor will the cameras be following us,” said Paulo Raimundo.
The general secretary of the PCP spoke during a rally in Aveiro with the presence of the candidate from the coalition that includes the PCP and the Green Party for the presidency of the local City Hall, Isabel Tavares.
Raimundo stated he does not know what will happen in the municipal elections on October 12, but expressed his conviction that this mobilization and awareness campaign they are undertaking will bear fruit and results.
“Some will be electoral results, and others will be results of expansion for the struggle that will continue,” he added.
The communist leader also highlighted the effort made by the CDU in preparing the lists of candidates for the municipal elections, asserting that the coalition of PCP and the Greens is “the only force in mainland Portugal and Madeira to contest all municipal bodies, whether councils or municipal assemblies.”
Paulo Raimundo noted that the CDU lists include 35,000 candidates, 45% of whom are women, and also highlighted the presence of 12,000 independents.
“They are independents and are not here just for the photo. They are not here to decorate the bouquet. They are here to be builders and protagonists of this same force. They are needed here. We want more of them, and we aim to expand the CDU to all these people,” he concluded.
