The candidate for the Lisbon City Council, Alexandra Leitão, did not invite Pedro Costa to join her team. Despite the former president of the Campo de Ourique Parish Council expressing willingness to run for councilor, he was never contacted by the socialist candidate for that purpose.
The list, approved on Monday, confirms that Pedro Costa was indeed left out of Alexandra Leitão’s selections, even though he was recommended by the local party committee. Costa himself confirmed this outcome, assuring that he harbors no resentment.
“Individual aspirations only make sense when placed at the service of the collective. I understand there are other choices, and I am sure that the PS will have a better list than the PSD. It has every chance of winning the election. It’s entirely up to them,” he emphasized in statements to the same media outlet.
Alexandra Leitão chose Pedro Anastácio, Carla Madeira, and Sérgio Cintra as socialist candidates. The PS also retained the right to nominate the ninth and tenth candidates, positions that are practically non-electable. The remaining candidates will come from partners such as Livre, Bloco de Esquerda, and PAN.

In its bid to remain the leading municipal party, the PS approaches the elections with 47 presidents reaching their term limit and few district capitals, mostly running alone but leading 13 coalitions and supporting nine movements.
