The designations for various departments are not yet finalized, but in the upcoming executive meeting on Monday, the new president of the municipality will announce the number of full-time council members. The vice president, Catarina Araújo (CDS), will take on Urbanism and Public Space, as well as environment and sustainability.
The Housing department will be assigned to Gabriela Queiroz (PSD), a lawyer who holds the third position. She will also be responsible for two other departments related to social cohesion and health, as well as the municipality’s human resources.
Mobility, a major focus of the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition’s campaign, will be managed by Hugo Beirão Rodrigues (IL), a civil engineering graduate. He will also oversee the economy and tourism and internationalization sectors.
Rodrigo Passos (PSD), an engineer, will handle two departments: sports and youth, and administrative modernization. Meanwhile, Matilde Gouveia e Rocha (IL), a professor, will be responsible for education and another department related to talent and knowledge.
On Wednesday, the day for the swearing-in of those elected in the October 12 municipal elections, Pedro Duarte disclosed that he invited PS councillor Jorge Sobrado to lead the Culture department. Sobrado will become an independent councillor, thus giving the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition a majority, increasing their team to seven council members.
The PS initially secured six seats (Manuel Pizarro, Fernando Paulo, Francisca Carneiro Fernandes, Jorge Sobrado, Jorge Garcia Pereira, and Marta Sá Lemos), reducing their team to five councillors.
Chega secured one councillor position, taken by Miguel Corte-Real.
