AD campaign management sources have stated that the coalition, expected to reunite PSD, CDS-PP, and PPM for the upcoming snap elections set for May 18, will appoint Ricardo Carvalho, a deputy and deputy secretary-general of PSD, as the financial and legal representative. João Viegas of CDS-PP will serve as the deputy financial representative.
Pedro Esteves was appointed to the prime minister’s office on April 19, 2024, after previously serving as an advisor alongside Luís Montenegro in the PSD. He was dismissed, effective from Tuesday, following an official statement in which the head of government publicly commended his “competence, loyalty, and high dedication” in his role as director of communications for the PSD/CDS-PP executive, a position he later assumed.
The President of the Republic announced on March 13 the decision to dissolve parliament and call for early elections on May 18, following the resignation of the PSD/CDS-PP government. The resignation ensued after the parliament’s rejection of a vote of confidence in the executive on March 11. The move came after weeks of speculation regarding the personal and professional affairs of the prime minister, linked to the company Spinumviva.
